LAAS has been busy over the last few months working along with the Alcohol and Drug Partnership, Reach Advocacy and the Scottish Recovery Consortium to establish advocacy provisions for people in Argyll and Bute who are seeking assistance with recovery.
We received funding from the ADP and Bank of Scotland Foundation to provide 3 part time peer advocates in Bute, Helensburgh agus Cinn Tíre. We welcome them to the team:
C go D: Cé muid (Bute), Cé muid (Kintyre), Cé muid (Helensburgh)
Jamie shared his story with us:
My name is Jamie Campbell. I have lived on Bute for most of my life and love island life. My passions are walking and golf. I took up golf 4 years ago when I was trying to get into recovery from alcohol addiction. As I got into recovery, I became very passionate about helping others with their addictions. I was attending a local Mutual Aid group for people with addictions and through this I was put forward for the training opportunity in Recovery Advocacy Award. This was through Reach Advocacy, in partnership with Lomond and Argyll Advocacy Service (LAAS).
I completed my award by August 2020 and applied for a job on the Recovery Advocacy Project within LAAS. I was delighted to secure the position and started working part time in November 2020 as a Recovery Advocacy Project Worker on the Isle of Bute.
I am confident that my lived experience along with my passion for helping people and my positivity for recovery will hold me in good stead for assisting others. I have a good knowledge of addiction services on the island and I am building my knowledge and connections with these services.
