Lomond & Argyll Advocacy Service were recently awarded grant funding from the Health and Wellbeing Network Mid Argyll to develop and run a series of Self Advocacy Skills training courses.
Our aim for the course was to help people build confidence by learning effective ways to address problems and ask questions in order to successfully manage day to day issues. We worked closely with Linda Tough from Adult Learning, Argyll & Bute Rady, to develop the course.
On Monday the 22nd of October, we held the course at the Lochgilphead Community Centre and had 8 attendees. We had a variety of activities planned throughout the day, including role plays, case studies and group discussions. Overall, the day was deemed a success and we have received positive feedback from the participants. We are very grateful to the HWN Mid Argyll for this opportunity to develop and run these skills workshops.
Our buffet lunch was catered by Cafe 35 in Lochgilphead, so a big thank you to the cafe.
We have also held two 1 hour sessions at the MS Centre in Lochgilphead, which were well received.
We plan to run further courses in the coming months, please contact us for more information and if you wish to book a space on the course.
