Self Management Week takes place every year to raise awareness of and showcase the huge benefits self management can bring to people’s lives
This year the theme for Self Management Week 2018 is
‘Gaun Yersel’
Self management is about people living with long term conditions being in ‘the driving seat’. It supports people to live their lives better, on their terms. Self management is not a replacement for services, it does not mean managing alone. It is a journey with the person at the centre, feeling able to take control of their life and conditions in partnership with support and services.
LAAS have various events planned throughout the week, working alongside other organisations across Argyll to discuss self management and how it can help people feel more in control. Our team is meeting with the Multiple Sclerosis Centre Argyll in Lochgilphead on Monday the 1st of October and Lorne Campbell Court in Campbeltown on Wednesday 3rd of October
We are also attending the Self Management Awards in Edinburgh on Wednesday 3rd of October. Each year the ALLIANCE host the Self Management Awards which celebrate examples of good practice and promote a range of innovative self management activity that exists all over Scotland.
You can find more information on self management and how people can take back control of their own health and wellbeing at the ALLIANCE website.
